Our lives are sometimes shaped by what we hold most dear during our youth and developmental years. My love for the outdoors and fascination with drawing was formed at that early stage of my life, and only continued to become a stronger force as years passed.
Drawing always seemed to be second nature to me and despite a natural love for sports and physical activities, no matter what was happening around me, I was always very content just to have a pencil and a few scraps of paper.
As a painter I spent a number of years learning about the craft of painting en plein air from John David Wissler, whose MFA work at the Parson’s School of Design in New York, his teaching techniques and focus on Hans Hofmann’s theory of “push-pull”, and the interdependent relationships between form, color and space greatly influenced the way in which I began to approach my work.
To this day my primary focus as an artist are landscapes painted on location, concentrating on capturing atmosphere in concert with the shapes, forms and structures of my chosen subject.
